One of the worst cases we have ever rescued, Lyra was surrendered by her owner when a passerby saw her condition and forced the owner to call us. Lyra came to us in a collapsed state, unconscious and barely breathing. Her body temperature was low and her glucose levels were not registering on the machine when she was rushed in.
The first 6 – 12 hours was spent warming her up and keeping her breathing. When she finally woke up we found that she could not walk. After a blood transfusion, offering her soup and hand feeding her small amounts 10 times a day, Lyra stood up for the first time about 6 days after she was rescued. From there on this determined little girl did her best to get better, walking, eating and taking her medication willingly.
